My Mask

Filed under: poems and quotes — haleyw2014 at 10:02 am on Tuesday, January 25, 2011

This mask I wear

to hide the fear

instead I smile, too

afraid to shed a tear.

I dont show anger,

however rage is just below.

And how much longer from

submerging? I do not know…

A storm of thunder, with

this burden falling like rain

Pressure building, and the effect?

Is much more than emotional pain…

This mask I wear

was no match for you,

no matter what I did

you saw right through.

And over some time

This storm has been at ease

And the mask I wear, is

no longer a fake peace.

Proudest moment

Filed under: Uncategorized — haleyw2014 at 1:03 pm on Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Here at Mariner Middle; I have had several proud moments. Some with sports, and others with my friends and grades. Even getting a part in a play! I’ve had so many, I lost count. However, I’m not really sure which triumphs all.

I think my proudest moment for sports, would probably have to be the time I made the field hockey and the softball team for Mariner. I was entirely happy and filled with joy when I found out. It was only my first year playing field hockey, and I made the team! I was flabbergasted! And then, after trying for 2 years to make the softball team, I did! I guess third time really is a charm.

My proudest moment with my friends would probably be all the friends I made. With the inside jokes; the tears we’ve shared; hugs we’ve giving and all the laughs we created that caused us gasping for air.

With my grades, my proudest moment would be this year. I have remained on the A honor- roll the entire year! I was so proud! And so were my parents.

These are all of my proudest moments throughout my middle school career here at Mariner Middle School, and I will never forget them.

“Things Not Seen” book review!

Filed under: Uncategorized — haleyw2014 at 1:14 pm on Monday, May 10, 2010

This book is all about a boy who, one day, will change his life forever!! It all began one night. To Bobby, it was just like any other night. He turned on his heating blanket and fell asleep. In the morning he woke up for school, the usual and took a shower. But when he steps out of the shower, that’s where things take a wrong turn. He looks and the mirror, and know what he sees staring back? Nothing! He doesn’t see himself what so ever! All he sees is his towel wrapped around his waist, suspended in mid- air! Bobby is flabbergasted! He goes downstairs, with precaution since he can no longer see where his feet are, to tell his parents. At first, his parents don’t believe him. They just think it’s a practical joke or something. But then he convinces them when he starts to eat his breakfast, as his parents, with their jaw dropped to the floor, watch the fork with his eggs lift in mid- air, and then the eggs disappear into his mouth, along with the orange juice.

And now, his parents are in a complete daze! How could this had happed?? And that’s where the journey beginnings.  He must stay at home, since he obviously cannot go to school without causing a riot, plus, his parents don’t want him to get taken by the FBI. So to the school, he has the flu. Bored, since his parents are at work, decides to go to the library, but how?? It was pretty cold out, so he bundles up so every part of his body is covered. However while he’s there, he accidently bumps into a girl and nocks all her stuff to the ground. Including her cane, her white cane. This girl was blind, and he was desperate to talk to someone. So the next day, he meets with her at the library and they start talking.  He’s growing to like her, but then it all goes wrong. She notices that he wasn’t wearing anything out, and he tells her why. And when she finds out, Bobby’s life changes. Her dad, it turns out, is a scientist just like bobby’s dad. And together they put there heads to try and decide how the heck bobby disappear. But they have a dead line, if they don’t find out in the next five days; bobby’s parents will be arrested for bobby’s disappearance. Will they find out in time?? You’ll have to read to find out.

Bobby is the main character, and he’s not a fan of school. In fact, he could care less. The only thing he actually enjoys in school would have to be English and reading. He always goes to the library, and sometimes wishes that he could live there. Alicia, who is the blind girl bobby meets, is very… oh what’s the word… Takes things the wrong way at times. She tends to use sarcasm a lot when she is annoyed, which she tends to do to bobby a lot. Bobby and Alicia grow very close together. They’re like the cute couple in the book. Bobby’s dad likes to be informative and like to show off his knowledge to anyone he can. He’s a scientist and tends to blow up atoms in his lab for a living. Bobby’s mother is a freak about English, and teaches and a university. Alicia’s parents are very similar to bobby’s parents.

I really did enjoy this book! It’s one of the best I’ve ever read! The writing was well and it was a page turner! I could put the book down at all! When I was reading the book, it was almost like I was watching a movie; like I wasn’t reading it, but watching everything that was going on in my book.

I highly recommend this book to anyone! Adults, kids, and even teens would, I think, like to read this book. If you like fiction as much as I do, then you’ll really like this book, no lie.

Time Must Go On- Limerick

As time flies,

Life will always have lies;

but life must go on,

And I will remain stronge,

Even through my cries.

Softly cuddling,

And holding you near, I love

My sweet teddy bear

“SUCCESS IS COUNTED SWEETEST” By Emily Dickinson

Filed under: Uncategorized — haleyw2014 at 1:08 pm on Thursday, April 22, 2010

SUCCESS is counted sweetest

By those who ne’er succeed

 To comprehend a nectar

Requires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple host

Who took the flag to-day

Can tell the definition,

So clear, of victory.

As he, defeated, dying

On whose forbidden ear

The distant strains of triumph

Break, agonized and clear.

“Sleeping In the Forest” By Mary Oliver

I thought the earth remembered me,

she took me back so tenderly,

arranging her dark skirts, her pockets

full of lichens and seeds.

I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,

nothing between me and the white fire of stars

but my thoughts, and they floated lite as moths

among the branches of perfect trees.

all night I heard the small kingdoms

breathing around me, the insects

and the birds who do their work in the darkness

all night I rose and feel, as if in water,

grappling with luminous doom. By morning

I had vanished at least a dozen times

into something better.

This poem to me shows the power of dreaming. When you sleep, your body gets so relaxed! its like your excaping to another world.

“Touched By An Angel” By Maya Angelou + Refelction

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

This poem is about how when love arrives, everything seems to become better. Without love, where would we be? Love is what makes the world go round, and to me is the most important thing. When our lives arent the best, and we’re down or sad, there is only one way to cure it. Love. Love is truely the only thing that can make us happy. Money and wealth isnt going to have the full affect of happiness as love does. Infact, people with more money tend to be more unhappy than thoes who dont even have money.

“Women Work” by Maya Angelou + Reflection

I’ve got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I’ve got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The can to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.

Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
‘Til I can rest again.

Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.

Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You’re all that I can call my own

This poem is all about the powers of love. This mother has a heckic, crazy life with non-stop stuff that needs to be done. All she wants is a way to excape it all for a while. To feel free and have time to her self. I like this poem alot because one day, I’m sure I’ll end up in that position, being a mother andhaving to care for my young, and at times I’m sure I’ll want to have peace and quite, to just feel the rain fall gentilly on me. To relax again.

Spring time once again<3

Filed under: writing — haleyw2014 at 12:15 pm on Friday, March 19, 2010

Spring; one of my favorite times of the year. Watching, as nature begins to blossom once again, as it comes back to life. With flowers budding, the sound of spring begins! Birds are chirping their sweet little tunes, and frogs croaking their harmony; it all comes together like a symphony of sounds.

The blissful cherry blossoms’ begin to dance, as the wind blows on by. While the wind blows, petals become air born. As they float by, they brush against my face. The soft texture of the petals bring me at ease, as I’m grateful it is spring time once again.
